About these numbers

These are the early vote counts published by the Michigan Department of State, Bureau of Elections. GovGalaxy shows the state's own figures. We don't estimate, adjust, or project them.

What's counted. Early in-person ballots, mail ballots returned and mail ballots requested, as Michigan defines them. Michigan calls these mail ballots (also called absentee ballots). Mail ballots requested include voters on the permanent mail ballot list. Mail ballots returned include ballots handed in by mail, at a drop box, or at the local clerk's office. Early in-person ballots are ballots cast at an early voting site. Counts come from local clerks and can change after they are first reported; places with 10 or fewer ballots are reported as 'less than 10', so local numbers may not add up exactly.

Dates. Numbers are current to November 1, 2026, as reported by the state. Mail ballots became available 40 days before Election Day. Statewide early in-person voting runs Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, November 1, at least 8 hours a day. Some communities offer extra early voting days before October 24 (up to 29 days in all), and some may also open Monday, November 2. The state updates its dashboard daily through November 2, and its releases cite numbers as of 7 a.m. We check for updates twice a day. States update on their own schedules and sometimes revise earlier numbers.

Ballots, not votes. These numbers show how many ballots have been cast or returned. They don't show who anyone voted for, and they aren't results.

Party registration. Michigan doesn't register voters by party. Michigan doesn't report early voters by party, so we don't show party. Party splits for Michigan that appear elsewhere are estimates, not official numbers.

Comparing states. States count and report early voting differently and on different days, so their totals aren't directly comparable.
